Mentorventionists

Mentorventionists are skilled, experienced mentors who are also trained to intervene and help prevent conflicts before they escalate. They are deeply connected to networks of resources and programs that support youth development and long-term success.
Mentorventionists are trained to operate in urban environments and understand the realities of street culture, trauma, and community dynamics. They are culturally competent specialists who step in early—using media, messaging, visibility, and relationship-based influence to redirect behavior, reinforce accountability, and prevent escalation before crisis moments occur.
The term “Mentorventionist” was coined by Corey Cleghorn in 2012 while working with Urban Specialists, reflecting a mentorship model that combines guidance with strategic intervention. The term is being trademarked and is only permitted to be used by Mentoring Through Media or Urban Specialists.
